Reflections on Motherhood

Sometimes I fall into the trap of complaining about my kids. They whine and scream and cry. They bicker with each other and make angry faces at me. They make messes. They pull out my bookmarks and empty my wallet. They are mortally offended if they catch me asleep.

But there are a few moments every day that make it all worthwhile: Receiving a toothless smile, hearing a sweet little voice say "I like you and I love you and I think you're beautiful," or just sitting on the couch with three little warm bodies and reading "Frog and Toad."

Sure they're annoying sometimes---they're children! But they're my children, and they love me! So do I ever wish I'd pursued a career and become successful? Really, that's a ridiculous question. I did pursue a career and become successful. I'm a mom and my children love me. What greater success can there be?

Potty Training

In retrospect, potty training Tanner was so simple. In fact, it's almost like somebody else handled it: the Kathryn of the past. But the Kathryn of the present has to deal with the problem this time around, and golly, if Kevin wets his pants one more time I'm going to ... wash him and put a diaper on him, I suppose.

It all began a few weeks ago when I pulled the tiny man onto my lap and said, "I won't let you down until you say you want underpants." Fifteen minutes later, after much whining and wiggling from both parties concerned, I relented enough to say: "I'll give you candy if you say you want underpants."

"I want underpants!"

Since then, he loves to wear underpants, but wearing does not imply using properly. Little boys are so hard to potty train. Somebody must have been laughing His head off when He designed a little hose as a boy's method of waste removal.

Feelin' Groovy

Feelin' groovy. What is that supposed to mean? Does it refer to grooves on a record? Who would want to feel like the grooves on a record? A really old person's forehead might feel a bit like that. So is that song really about old people who are looking for fun? Ah well. I don't even know the name of the song, but I bet you know what song I'm talking about. I bet you'll be whistling it a few hours from now, not even knowing why. Oh, the power of blogging! Why did I not start earlier?!!

In the beginning...

After dozens of months of sneering at the word "blog," my curiosity has gotten the better of me and I've decided to try it out. Rob's at work and the kids are ostensibly watching "Bob the Builder," although they sound a little more rambunctious than movie-viewing generally requires. Will the Crazy Chases' Blog take off and soar to great heights? That is the question.
Actually, the question is "What is the difference between a duck?"
Fortunately, we now know the answer is: "Both legs are just the same except the tail, and they have more fun than kids when they ride bicycles, but even then their feet dangle." Thanks to my dad remembering his mother's crazy answer.
