It was stake fill-the-temple day. We decided to bring the kids with us instead of leave them with a sitter for 8-10 hours. Amy has a bad track record with babysitters, and I have a bad track record with leaving Amy with babysitters.
So we got a room and made a little weekend getaway out of it. I went to the temple first while Rob played with and fed the kids, and then we went to the biggest restaurant in the world: The Cheesecake Factory.
I ordered the chicken salad sandwich, and I think I shall forever after be disappointed with chicken salad sandwiches. It was a grand experience. We spent more there than ever we have spent at a restaurant, but WOOT! What a place! And the dessert! Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake! They actually had about 30 kinds of cheesecake. Great place. Amy loved it, too. Then we checked into the motel and watched Spongebob Squarepants while Rob went to the temple. I am SO glad we don't subscribe to any television service at home. (But it was a strangely compelling cartoon.)
Saturday we went to probably too many tourist attractions:
(1) Myriad Botanical Gardens and Crystal Bridge, where I decided to try my hand at floral photography and Amy tried her hand at getting her knees as dirty as possible
.
(2) The Oklahoma City National Memorial.
(3) 45th Infantry Division Museum, where the boys got to see and touch real tanks, airplanes, helicopters, and cannons. We weren't planning on going, but as we drove past it the van jerked to a stop. Boys can't resist the sight of heavy artillery, I guess.
(4) Oklahoma Firefighter's Museum.
This was really more than anybody should try to do with three small children, so we then went home and agreed to try something less ambitious next time we went to the temple.
[On a side note, it is a very good thing we have cameras. Were it not for the great pictures we got, the vacation would most likely be remembered as stressful and crazy. But we can step back from the emotional memories of insanity and look at a few, select moments that really made it all worthwhile.]

Wait... Somehow watching Spongebob "The Greatest Cartoon Ever For Babies" Squarepants reaffirmed your happiness about not having cable? Because Spongebob is totally awesome. When Peter was in the hospital for his surgery, we watched Carl Sagan's 20-hour miniseries about the universe, and Spongebob. For four days, that was all we had to keep us going. And it worked! It healed Peter! (That and the surgery, I suppose.) But we had two glorious channels of Spongebob, so we could watch it so many hours...! So many hours!
Also, I love the Cheesecake Factory. I think it's almost criminal to ever eat their food -- my new rule is I will only eat their cheesecake. So expensive. So delicious. Adam's Peanut Butter Cup. Sweet monkeys made of molasses.
And finally, your children are reasonably cute. :o) (I mean, my own are cutest. But yours aren't bad!)
Your kiddos are adorable! I can't believe how big they are. Oklahoma?? How far of a drive is that for you guys?
You brave souls. We have also subjected outselves to hotel stays involving children and temple visits in our past. You must have been tired, but your pictures say it all. I especially liked the two boys grinning with glee beside the cannon.
