Wasps!

While our neighbors blissfully play in the warm springy sunshine, mowing their lawns or perhaps grilling up some hamburgers, we cringe in fear.

I am certain they all know something we don't know.

For their houses remain largely unmolested by the vile fiends that seek to establish their crusty lairs on our property: WASPS!!!

In the past two days we have used up 2.75 cans of wasp spray, killing more than fifteen of the beasts. They hover by the front door, the back porch, and the playground. If I put Amy in the baby swing, inevitably a tiny monster will come and mercilessly put my maternal instincts to the test. Which is stronger: my love for Amy, or my fear of wasps? Incredibly, it is my love for Amy.

I have been told by some that various insects are more afraid of me than I am of them.

Codswallop.

I have, for the past 27 years, built up a neurotic, painful, nauseating fear of insects that far outshadows any paltry emotion pent up in a bug. Spiders afraid of me? Please. They haven't the body capacity to house the amount of fear I hold for them. Wasps afraid of me? With those oversized stingers and those undersized brains? I think not.

We have found no nests on or near our property. I think it probable that the insidious insects sense my fear and feed on it, use it to nourish their slimy young. They need no homes: they live in my terror.

Man, I hate bugs.

Ew! Awful!! I HATE wasps too. They infiltrated our Provo house through the upstairs window. I have no idea how they crawled under it. So nasty!

Have you checked your attic? Ours were living above the garage. They also love wood. We found nests all along our wood fence.

Ultimately they won and we just decided to move :-) I suppose we had other reasons for moving too, but those wasps were a close second.

May you be the victor!

Don't move to the south. The bugs are even bigger here...

Good luck on the killing spree. I hate those things too!

I am the same way! I tell my kids not to freak out when any sort of bee comes near, but I can't practice what I preach. They are starting to get my fear. You could put some wasp traps around your yard, which might help a bit. I'm just as scared as you. I'd rather stay inside than risk it. Good luck.

Incredibly descriptive writing as usual - you summed it up for me. Where were you when we needed an epistle written to BYU housing about box elder beetles? Or maybe you had a chance of your own with that affair.
